What a Busy Weekend!

I gotta say, this weekend was BUSY! and it flew by fast! But it was also filled with tons of fun activities for Earth Day an other acts of activism.

First, Earth Day brought me a new puppy!  Her name is Eleanor Rigby, but we just call her Rigby for short.  So, readers, be on the lookout for fun-filled ways to green your pet, since I now have a guinea pig :)    More pics to follow!

Then, Friday brought Inhabitat’s 5th Anniversary party in New York City.  Laurel, from Laurel On Health Food attended on Green Thinking Blog’s behalf, be on the look-out for her first-hand experience at this green bash!

Saturday was the Central Florida Earth Day fest, complete with environmental education, speakers, local artists and musicians, an animal haven, and tons of fantastic veggie/vegan food tents.  A personal fave from the food fest was the almond soy cream with pomegranate cherry sorbet – it was the perfect topper to a gorgeous day.

I invested in two reusable lunch totes made from the GoGreenHandbag.com tent. One tote will be for my lunch and picnics with Rigby, the other will make a perfect gift for someone I adore this Mother’s day.  Not only that, but a friend of mine is a cosmetic consultant, and she bought one to keep her make-up from melting on deliveries this hot summer…smart huh?  Both bags were made by Koko, so part of the dollars I spent went to fund Breast Cancer research.

Another thing I received, probably the most practical, was a simple Household Hazardous Wastes disposal and safe substitutes pamphlet, it has one of the pull tabs to show you an alternative to things like: bleach, disinfectants, air freshener sprays, and even pool cleaners!  Here is a great tip to take home for the day: Instead of using resolve for your carpet or upholstery, try sprinkling dry cornstarch or baking soda on it, then vacuuming it up.  For tougher stains, blot with white vinegar in soapy water. Natural, fresh, and it works!!!  (Puppies happen to make a few stains along the way :) )

Saturday ended with a very successful walk for Crohn’s & Colitis.  Thank you everyone for your support in the in important cause.

Sunday, today, I had to practice a few of the new cleaning tips  I got from the fest, I took Rigby to get acquainted with the city, and I took the opportunity to enjoy the beautiful outdoors.

I gotta say, I am definitely looking forward to a little R&R tonight.

UPDATE:  If you didn’t have the chance to enter the Earth Day Trivia contest, feel free to do it now!  The chance to win has been extended through the end of the month, so do your research and comment today for your chance to win a $20 gift card to Whole Foods.

To everyone out there, here is wishing your Earth Day weekend was just as fun and fulfilling as mine. Have a great night!
