Have to wonder on this one - are we not returning to where we were in years gone by? As much as some folks may not like it, leather shoes can be be made organically and are from a renewable resource. Further, I will add that in 20 years I have had maybe four or five good pair of boots that have had heals and soles replaces several times during the course of being worn out beyond such repairs. Being leather instead of a synthetic (if it is not a chrome or heavy metal cured leather of course) means it will decompose fairly naturally as well.

Thanks for posting loves! Rose-you and your juice boxes are still fabulous!

Mel, check out this article from the New York Times' green blog called Dot Earth. They've got a piece about Wal-Mart's sustainability push.

This is awesome - I have been making my shoes out of juice boxes, but I'll bet the Payless variety will be cuter. (I kid, but I'm serious about shoes.)

This is fantastic news - I can't wait to see what they offer! I've seen a lot of good efforts to make eco-friendly products, but this is one of the first ones I've heard about where the price won't be so much of an issue. I think a lot of people would like to buy 'green' products but the price is prohibitive. If only Walmart would get on board with the green movement, we'd see a huge change in all retail industries.
