Power Plastic

Our world has turned plastic. Everywhere you look and almost everything you use is made of plastic.  So, what if you could take that plastic and turn it into energy?  Wouldn’t that alone defeat global warming?

Konarka Technologies is currently developing the technology for plastic to convert sunlight into power.  The dream listed above could be a reality in our everyday lives very soon.    Konarka’s technology right now is advanced enough to use a flexible, light weight plastic, that can convert sunlight at an efficiency of 6%.  In my opinion, that isn’t too shabby.

The company has recently received $45 million in funding to further develop the Power Plastic to a higher rate of conversion – meaning, eventually, your iPod and headphones will be able to generate enough energy from the material it is made of to power itself!  No charger, no batteries.  Just your iPod & the sun having a relationship.
