I heard about Pangea Day over on TED.com, a truly amazing website that you should check out when you have some spare time. Pangea Day is May 10, 2008. But what is it? Well remember when you learned back in elementary school that the world’s continents used to be a connected supercontinent (pangea or pangaea) that later broke out into the 7 separate continents? Well Pangea Day is tapping into this historical knowledge with a huge event that aims to unite people all over to world to promote compassion and tolerance. Here is some of the info from the website to explain:
“In a world where people are often divided by borders, difference, and conflict, it’s easy to lose sight of what we all have in common. Pangea Day seeks to overcome that - to help people see themselves in others - through the power of film. On May 10, 2008 - Pangea Day - sites in Cairo, Kigali, London, Los Angeles, Mumbai and Rio de Janeiro will be linked live to produce a program of powerful films, visionary speakers, and uplifting music. The program will be broadcast live to the world through the Internet, television, digital cinemas, and mobile phones.” (PangeaDay.org)
