Ten days in the New Year, the holidays are over, no more vacation, let’s get down & dirty with some resolutions to make 2009 FINE!

Blue Planet Foundation is an organization that is dedicated to implementing renewable energy programs and creating a global awareness to respond the urgency of the climate change we face.

Primarily, the Foundation is looking at the state of Hawaii to be an example to the world of how to use clean energy.  They have put in place 5 New Year’s Resolutions to make this goal a reality in 2009

(click on the link for further detail):

1. Put smart energy policies in place.  The Hawaii Clean Energy Initiative has laid the ground work, but legislature and the public utilities commission have to take it and run.

2.  Enact a clean energy investment fund.  Investing in a grid, energy storage, and infrastructure now will allow for dividends to residents in the future.

3.  Float bonds for radical energy efficiency and clean energy investment.   This goal will create an economic stimulus during this time of recession.

4.  Develop clean tech workforce training. Prepare the workforce to enter the clean energy industry with green collar jobs.

5.  All of us committing to shrink our energy footprint.   Ah, music to our ears.  This goal of awareness & consciousness to reduce what we use could be the most beneficial.  We aren’t saying become an orthodox treehugger, we are saying as is Blue Planet to do what we know, & the smallest things help.  They suggest: “…replacing incandescent light bulbs with CFLs, putting in a solar water heater, swapping out an old, inefficient fridge, driving less–all go a long way to keeping oil in the ground and money in your pocket. And although the cost of oil is down, its cost to the environment hasn’t changed one bit. Each of us doing our part really makes a world of difference.”  YYEESS!!!

Further, Blue Planet recently sponsored a contest to ten families in Hawaii -each of whom won a brand new solar water heater!.  (if you live in Hawaii, this is a shout-out to check for this contest again in the future)  All they had to do was sign up on the website.
