Hike Those Trails & Keep Em GREEN!

In a couple of weeks, February 23-26 to be precise, will be Hike the Hill Trails Advocacy Week.

During this time, the American Hiking Society and the Partnership for The National Trail System will advocate protecting trails to Congress.  The hike through Washington, D.C. will actually train participants in becoming successful lobbyists to fight for preserving our trails…Meaning, trail conservation will also preserve areas that aren’t trails or meant for trails & will  keep people from damaging those forests and other areas.

The American Hiking Society also promotes National Trail Day events…there are over 1,100 events registered each year to celebrate trails & support trails locally and nationwide.  In Florida alone, there were 16 events registered for 2009.  See how many events are registered in your area.

Hiking is a great way to get exercise and get outdoors to enjoy nature!  If you haven’t ever tried it before, be sure to get the appropriate shoes & drink a ton of water at all times.  Water is especially important the higher in altitude you go.  Check out the pics below from a trip to Colorado last summer - it really is spectacular.
