Do you remember Fat Bastard from Austin Powers? I use to pee my pants when he screamed, “GET IN MY BELLY!”
Allied Industrial Services gives that phrase a whole new meaning.
The Big Belly trash receptacle can hold up to five times as much garbage as a traditional garbage can. How? Well, this is the best part! It uses a solar powered compactor to squish the trash down and make room for more!
This is an important and green feature for several reasons.
First, it prevents trash from overflowing in public places, thus preventing litter to our parks, streets, and rivers. Further, preventing overflowing trash prevents accidental death to animals who ingest styrofoam or plastic by mistaking it for food while they scavenge.
Secondly, solar powered compact trash cans don’t require as many pick up loads. Since it holds more trash, it prevents carbon emissions from service vehicles that traditionally pick-up bags (that aren’t even full).
Thirdly, it uses less plastic bags! and the bags that are used, are used to capacity.
So, say it with me, “GET IN MY BELLY!”

These were installed near where I work a couple years ago, and they’ve become pretty gross. I actually walk the extra block or so to avoid them. It’s a good idea, but I don’t think the product’s quite there yet.
