While I wish I could be a romantic matchmaker of human love, I can only provide Green Thinking Blog readers with a great website to find their perfect volunteer opportunity.
As many of you know, I volunteer for a great non-profit called A Gift For Teaching, but since it is school associated, they don’t require volunteers over the summer months. I’ve taken a few weeks off for the summer vacation, but I am thinking I could add another organization to my portfolio – what I’ve found is VolunteerMatch.org.
While you can search for opportunities in your area by plugging in your zip code, you can also search for virtual opportunities. Non-profits from all over the nation are seeking people with skills that can be beneficial over the inter-web. Writers, artists, techies, whatever your skill may be, you can do this volunteering in the middle of the night from the comfort of your own home!
Right now, Volunteer Match is helping to promote Scoop It Forward, a program by Target and Ben & Jerry’s Ice cream. Basically, you volunteer with an opportunity on Volunteer Match, then check your email for a free ice cream. For this event, Ben & Jerry’s has created two all new flavors: Berry Voluntary and Brownie Chew Gooder.
Try it out & tell us what you think!
