EPF Follow-up: Request Denied
Written by kate - who has written 100 posts on Green Thinking Blog.
If you can recall, a couple of weeks ago, I wrote my most favorite-ist fast food chain to ask permission to bring in my own reusable cup to spare the life of a nearly unrecyclable EPF (styrofoam type) cup…

Surprisingly, I received a response. Not necessarily the response I was rooting for, but nonetheless…Please note, the name of the restaurant has been substituted with : BLANK BLANK BLANK restaurant, to ensure I will still be able to dine there…not drink anything from there, but dine there.
“Dear Kate:
Thank you for once again contacting BLANK BLANK BLANK restaurant.
Because each BLANK BLANK BLANK restaurant is independently operated, decisions to participate in any type of BLANK BLANK BLANK restaurant mug refill promotion is left to the discretion of the Restaurant Operator. These can be challenging to coordinate and execute while maintaining food safety standards. Also due to food safety issues, we do not encourage customers to bring in their own cups or mugs for filling with our beverages.
We, too, care about the environment and will continue to monitor ways in which BLANK BLANK BLANK restaurant can provide a long-term positive impact on the community and environment, while making wise business decisions that will not negatively impact our customers’ experience. Please rest assured that your concerns will be shared with the appropriate parties at BLANK BLANK BLANK restaurant, Inc.
Again, thank you again for your time and interest in BLANK BLANK BLANK restaurant.”
At least I don’t feel this is a pre-fabricated response, but I am sad that I am unable to bring in my own cup. I am not giving up though, and I hope you don’t either! I am going to write the specific Restaurant Operator to see if they won’t start a campaign - I truly feel it would be in their best interest. Frankly, screw their best interest, what about the interest of the EARTH!
