A big part of thinking green is appreciating the beauty in nature and everything our Earth has to offer. But we can also look up to the night sky and appreciate the amazing things happening outside our planet!

I know you’re already going to mark your calendar for Earth Day on April 22nd, but take special note that the Lyrid meteor shower is expected to give a beautiful showing on the same day this year.

In the early morning of April 22nd, from 12:00am to sunrise, find a dark place outside and look up to see the meteors. EarthSky.org says that Lyrid meteors are usually bright with visible trails that you can see for several seconds!

In college, my roommates and I stayed up all night to see a meteor shower and it’s still one of my favorite memories. We headed out to a secluded spot on campus and huddled together under blankets. I think we saw at least 50 meteors that night.

Remember, if you want to see these meteors you’ll need to either stay up late on Tuesday, April 21st or get up before dawn on Wednesday, April 22nd.
