I have caught myself a summer cold. Yuck. I don’t really feel as bad as I sound. I am experiencing massive congestion in my head and a cough that sounds like my lungs are coming out; but I’ve had a lot going on this week, so slowing down isn’t an option.
Here are some natural things I have done to take steps to get me back to my spunky self:
- Putting plenty of Vitamin C in my system: In addition to eating and drinking citrus, I have also been taking an additional Vitamin C supplement to build up my immune system.
- My special hot tottie: 1 packet of natural herbal tea + 1 tablespoon of natural honey + the juice of 1/2 lemon + 1 tsp of freshly grated ginger + one fresh mint leaf. This drink is so delicious and soothing on my sore throat.
- Hot sponge bath: this one is a special treat for anytime, but it especially helps to motivate you to keep going when you really don’t want to. Be sure to stand near a sink somewhere you don’t mind being in your birthday suit and you don’t mind the floor getting wet. Wet a washcloth as hot as you can possibly stand it, wring it out, and briskly rub your skin in a circular motion. Repeat for at least 10 minutes (be sure to turn the water off in between wetting the washcloth to conserve water) This act is so invigorating and will provide some energy as it at brings all of your blood cells to the surface. Not to mention, the steam created by the hot water will be great to break up that congestion!
- Boil some hot water, add a couple drops of Eucalyptus oil, lean your head over the water with a towel over your head and inhale deeply. Eucalyptus oil is excellent for clearing our your upper respiratory tract.
Not that I wish a summer cold on anyone, but I do hope you keep these ideas in mind the next time you find yourself feeling under the weather.
