Activism is a big theme in green thinking.  Activism to save the world, to promote sustainability, to take small steps to make a big difference.

A really great friend of mine, Denise, has been diagnosed with severe Crohn’s disease.  It has been an epedemic that has quietly swept through the world without much notice, but it causes chronic pain and discomfort to patients with this brutal digestive ailment.  Over the course of 10 years she has had 4 major surgeries and survived many other obstacles. What are some of these obstacles?  The removal of her entire colon, living at the weight of 72 pounds by no fault of her own, being fed most nutrients through an IV, and not being able to support herself independently through a full-time job because of its side effects.

If this doesn’t make you think, I am not sure what else would.  She has taken the initiative to make awareness of this disease known to the larger community by becoming a Team Captain for the inaugral Orlando Take Steps for Crohn’s and Colitis walk.  The walk will take place May 16 in hopes of bringing awareness & raising funds for research to cure this ailment.

To learn more, or to volunteer your time, support, or funds, please visit her website.

One out of every 200 people suffer from Crohn’s & Colitis, very likely you know someone with this disease.  Please take the time to make yourself aware & take a stand to help cure this disease for people who live everyday with pain.

Denise Bisceglie: Team Captain

I am taking the walk for my friend.  Friends act for friends and that is sustainability for the circle of the world.
